Martyn Cobourne is Professor of Orthodontics in the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences at King’s College London; and Honorary Consultant in Orthodontics at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
Martyn is Academic Lead and Director of the Postgraduate Programme in Orthodontics at King's College and is the co-author of three successful orthodontic textbooks, including the Handbook of Orthodontics. He has published >200 articles on orthodontics and craniofacial development and has a wide range of research interests. His clinical research is based upon investigating the effectiveness of different orthodontic treatment strategies using prospective clinical trials, which has included studies on self-ligating brackets, twin block functional appliances and supplemental vibrational force. More recently, his group have been investigating the effects of obesity on orthodontic tooth movement.
In 2015, Martyn was awarded the Charles Tomes Medal by the Royal College of Surgeons of England, whilst his research has won the Chapman Prize of the British Orthodontic Society in 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2023. He delivered the 2018 Northcroft Memorial Lecture at the British Orthodontic Conference and won the 2019 Dewel award from the American Association of Orthodontists for the best published clinical research article. From 2012-2022, he was been Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Orthodontics and is an elected board member of the Board of Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, where he was Vice-Dean from 2020-2022. He is a full member of the North Atlantic Division of the USA Angle Society.
Andrew DiBiase is a Consultant in Orthodontics at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust.
Andrew undertook his undergraduate training at Kings College, London; his postgraduate training at the Royal London Hospital and Senior Registrar training at the Charles Clifford Dental School, Sheffield. Since his appointment as a Consultant Orthodontist he has developed an extensive research portfolio, is part of the UK Orthodontic National Clinic Trials Network and has received numerous awards and grants. His research interests include the clinical effectiveness of orthodontic appliances and the psychosocial impact of malocclusion. He has published over 85 papers in peer-reviewed journals and co-authored two textbooks, including the Handbook of Orthodontics. Andrew also works in private practice in Kent
.
He has been awarded the Maurice Berman Prize for Clinical Excellence by the British Orthodontic Society and has twice won the Dewel Clinical Research Award by the American Association of Orthodontists, most recently in 2019. His research has been awarded the Chapman Prize from the British Orthodontic Society three times. He has previously served as Hon Secretary of the British Orthodontic Society and is currently an elected board member of the Board of Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is an active member of the Angle Society of Europe.
